WHAT IS SOCIAL SCIENCE?
I created the following YouTube video to explain what Social Science is about. Social Science is one of the main subjects I teach in high school grades 9-12 along with Education Technology and eventually Health. I believe it is important to understand what the Social Sciences are about because they cover such a rich diversity of topics. I like to use multimedia that includes images and music to engage and motivate my students and this video showcases this technology. One of the main questions I get from my students is :Why do we have to learn Social Studies?" I think it's important to provide them with an overview of what this subject is about and how it impacts their lives.

I believe in student-centered learning: small groups, collaboration, project based learning, choice, discovery/inquiry learning and the utilization of technology to engage and motivate students.

LITERATURE REVIEW TPE A (1): Making Social Science Comprehensible to ELL Students
The
following literature review is an article on a study conducted by the author's
on challenges a New York City region high school faced when making
social
science content comprehensible to ELL students. The study was conducted in an
urban suburbia low economic region where the majority of students were Haitian,
Spanish and Creole. The study concludes by offering tangible, implementable
suggestions . It is a very interesting study. The only downfall is the lack of
suggesting more technology when teaching ELL students -- something that I would
add. This is mainly due to the age of the article (2009) and technological
advances that have occurred since then. Nevertheless, the author's suggestions
overall stand the test of time.
