DOMAIN B: TPE 2 & 3

I put together the following YouTube presentation to represent my views on assessment and student learning. This presentation takes into account both TPE 2 and TPE 3. Monitoring student learning happens on multiple levels - not just simply giving an annual assessment. I believe it is an intricate combination of strategies including diagnostic, formative, and summative including observation, self and peer assessments, portfolio assessments,  blogging, discussions, reflective journaling and giving students the opportunity to showcase their talents through their work. I also believe in giving students timely and constant feedback on their work and in being a responsive to their needs and questions. In addition, I think it is important for all teachers to be aware of the current controversies surrounding high stakes testing and how it is impacting education so I have included that in my presentation as well. I had the unique opportunity to help out with STAR testing for a few years and I learned first hand how paper and pencil tests simply are not the sole factor in determining student abilities. Highly qualified teachers must look beyond traditional testing methods in order to effectively monitor student learning. I believe that using a variety of different types of assessments is the best method.
